The Belmont Forum Welcomes new Member and Partners!

The Belmont Forum held its annual (virtual) plenary 25-27 October 2022.  This event brings together Belmont Forum Members and Partners to engage in discussion on administrative and governance issues, as well as to explore forward looking opportunities for the development of Belmont Forum Collaborative Research Actions (CRAs).

This year Belmont Forum was happy to welcome the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) as a Member, and the the Global Development Network (GDNs) and the Adaptation Research Alliance (ARA) as Belmont Forum Partners.

“The Belmont Forum is an interesting way to support transdisciplinary research on climate change. It brings together a global and diverse network of organisations. It has accumulated experience in carrying out joint funding activities and building knowledge communities around the topics they support. It is a real asset of cooperation and inspiration for SNSF – Laure Ognois, Head of International Affairs, Swiss National Science Foundation

These new members and partners will increase the reach and networks of Belmont Forum funded calls and projects, and responds to the Belmont Forum External Review  which recommended that the Belmont Forum seek ways to increase connections and engagement with the Global South.

“Together, GDN and Belmont Forum will create new opportunities for social scientists in low and middle income counties to work on sustainability issues, together with civil society, decision makers and colleagues for high income countries. We’ll ensure that funding opportunities are visible and accessible, that there are opportunities for finding collaborators and create consortia, and for building strong and useful research projects together.” – Dr. Fancesco Obino, Director of Research and Programs, Global Development Network

In 2023, we look forward to working closely with the entire Belmont Forum community as we explore:

  • Pathways to Sustainability
  • Future Leaders
  • Environmental Peacebuilding
  • Africa Regional
  • Defining Urban Transitions
  • Amazon and Tropical Forests

and launch three new collaborative research actions (CRAs):

  • Climate Environment and Health
  • Urban Blue and Green Spaces
  • Climate and Cultural Heritage
