Climate is a complex and multifaceted challenge that touches every aspect of our lives, including our cultural heritage. From ancient monuments to traditional practices, our cultural heritage is vulnerable to the impacts of changing environments.
That’s why the Joint Programming Initiative – Climate (JPI Climate) and JPI Cultural Heritage, in partnership with the Belmont Forum, launched a joint call for research projects focusing on the intersection of climate and cultural heritage. We’re thrilled to share the results of this collaborative effort – 16 innovative research projects that are working to safeguard our cultural heritage for future generations.
To highlight the work being done within these projects, JPI Climate released a new brochure. It provides an overview of the 16 projects, their objectives, and their consortium partners.
The Projects: A Glimpse into the Research
The brochure explores a diverse range of research topics, including:
- Adaptation Traditions and Climate Change: Investigating how traditional knowledge and practices can help communities adapt to climate change.
- Biocultural Heritage in Arctic Cities: Examining the role of biocultural heritage in climate adaptation in urban Arctic environments.
- Wildfires Resilient Cultural Heritage: Developing strategies to protect cultural heritage from the increasing risk of wildfires.
- Cultural Heritage in Motion – Indigenous Knowledge and Mobile Livelihoods in Changing Climates: Understanding the impact of climate change on mobile indigenous communities.
- Socio-Ecological Archiving – Coastal Communities’ Heritage in Times of Climate Change: Preserving and documenting the cultural heritage of coastal communities facing climate change.
A Collaborative Effort
The brochure showcases the collaborative spirit that underpins the work of JPI Climate and the Belmont Forum. These projects bring together researchers from diverse disciplines and across international boundaries, working together to find solutions to the challenges of climate and cultural heritage.
The research projects highlighted in the brochure are aiming to making significant contributions to our understanding of the complex interactions between climate and cultural heritage. They are also developing innovative solutions to protect and preserve our cultural heritage for future generations.
We encourage you to download the brochure and learn more about these exciting research projects. Together, we can safeguard our cultural heritage and build a more sustainable future.
